Jim Joel is an artist, researcher and photographer with keen interest in history and culture. His project Bulunji bwansi, is a collaboration with women artisans from Tooro Kingdom, in western Uganda, to which he is affiliated, to document the Kla Arts Festival artists’ cultural heritage using crafts, coffee stains, and illustrations which have historically been used to unite communities.
Jim experiments with these mediums to document heritage and cultural experiences, integrating his main medium photography as a vital part of the process. The pieces represent the need for community as a care instruction to balancing individuals’ lives.
